Intro Blurb - SeanMcDon
The SeanMcDon is a newsletter containing academically researched and critically engaged writings in relation to issues of Scottish and Irish social history, political economy, criminology and the cultural significance of Celtic Football Club.
Sean works in Scottish adult education specialising in the fields of Scottish and Irish social history (1745 - 1922) and Criminology. Specifically, he is interested in any aspect of social history as taught 'from below': that is, from the perspective of the dis-empowered.
He is predominantly interested in researching, teaching and writing about any subsequent history which interconnects small historical events or case studies (microhistory) which help inform about major debating points and themes. Namely, these are themes of power, equality, social change, migration, radicalism and rebellion: to name a few.
Sean is also a family history research specialist with over ten years of private family research and genealogy experience under his belt. Some examples of this work and information regarding booking, can be found at his associated site:
In relation to crime and justice, Sean is interested in, and actively researching, issues of social harm, social murder and the interplay between social class, poverty and exclusion and criminal incarceration. Sean is also an activist for prison abolition and is a follower of the Prisoner Solidarity Network in the UK. Sean has remained a vocal critic of the so called Imprisonment for Public Protection (IPP) policy.
In addition, Sean is a lifelong fan of Celtic Football Club and currently writes for one of the longest running Celtic fanzines, 'The Alternative View' where he writes mostly from a historical, cultural and political perspective in relation to all things Celtic. He has also appeared on numerous Celtic FC podcasts, most notably, with The Celtic Underground where he discussed the relationship between Celtic FC, politics, identity and migration.
Sean was a native of both the Calton and Garngad areas in the east and north east of Glasgow before moving to the Govan area, where he currently resides and works.
