Coming Soon... "The People's Singer"
Over the coming weeks I will publish short and substantial articles on the subject of resistance and solidarity from below by way of song.
Whether written as deliberate songs of protest and worker organisation or whether written as folk songs with themes of solidarity, there are certain songs which have had a long lasting impact on the psyche of the disempowered and dispossessed.
Over the month of November, I will go into some detail of the artists behind these songs, there impact politically and critically engage with why, exactly, there songs have struck such a chord with those of the community who are exploited and exhausted.
Dick Gaughan (1948 - ), Matt McGinn (1928 - 1977), Hamish Henderson (1919 - 2002), Woody Guthrie (1912 - 1967), Damien Dempsey (1975 - ) and Venezuela's Alí Primera (1942 - 1985) will all feature throughout November.
Stay tuned, get involved and have your grotesquely capitalistic music app of choice - likely Spotify - at the ready.
